Tom Evans

Tom Evans has been superintendent of the Cuyahoga Heights Schools since 2015. Prior to that  was the Cuyahoga Heights’ Middle/High School Principal for five years. 

A 1977 graduate of Cuyahoga Heights High School, Evans was at the Medina County Career Center from 2002-2010 where he was horticulture instructor for one year and assistant principal for seven years.  From 1999 to 2002, he was a science teacher at Elyria Catholic High School where he also served as head football coach and assistant wrestling coach. From 1985 to 1999 he was horticulture instructor at the Polaris Career Center as well as an assistant football coach, head wrestling coach, and assistant track coach at Berea High School. From 1984 to 1985, he was horticulture instructor at the Cleveland City Schools’ Washington Park School. That year, he was also a volunteer wrestling coach in the Cuyahoga Heights Schools. From 1983-1984, he was a horticulture instructor at the  U.S. Grant Career Center and assistant wrestling coach at Bethel Tate High School. And, from 1981 to 1983, he was horticultural instructor at the Vanguard Vocational School. 

Evans holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from The Ohio State University, and a Master of Education Degree from Ashland University.  

Evans has been heavily involved in the sport of wrestling for many years. He earned an Award of Merit from the Greater Cn addition to overseeing the operation of the Cuyahoga Heights Schools, Evans has been a broadcaster for high school football for WEOL radio from 2002 to the present. He has also been a broadcaster for  Kent State University Football from 2021 to the present  and has done a weekly wrestling radio show on WEOL radio during wrestling season from 2021 to the present.  In addition since 2021, he has done a weekly wrestling podcast for the Elyria Chronicle Telegram newspaper.  

Cleveland Wrestling Officials Association, Ohio Wrestling Officials Hall of Fame in 2018, and the Ohio Ohio Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame 2022. He was awarded the Vince Matteucci Person of the Year Award in 2023 for Contributions to the Sport of Wrestling.

He and his wife, Lisa, are the proud parents of sons Tom and Drew and daughter Mary Kate and grandparents of granddaughter Kennedy Kaczay and grandsons Alaric Evans and Owen Grueber.
