Matthew (Matt) Young

Matt Young has been Assistant Superintendent for the Cuyahoga Heights Schools since August 2020.  In this capacity, he oversees the district’s Curriculum and Instruction, Testing, Hiring, Technology, Transportation, Nutrition Services, and Buildings and Grounds Departments. 

Young has 29 years experience as a teacher and administrator. He returned to the district in 2020 from the Summit Educational Service Center (ESC) where he served as Director of Curriculum and Instruction from August 2018-July 2020. Prior to joining the Summit ESC, he served as Cuyahoga Heights Middle and High School Principal from August 2015-July 2018. He taught physics and chemistry at Copley High School from August 1995 to June 2012, served as Copley High School’s Assistant Principal from June 2012 to July 2013, and as Copley High School’s Principal from August 2013 to July 2015. He also coached cross country and track and field and was named Suburban League Coach of the Year thirteen times. 

Young has extensive state- and district-level experience in curriculum and instruction, data and testing, human resource management, school finance, communications and public relations, and collaborative leadership. He has served as a Regional Data Leader for the Ohio Department of Education, an OTES (Ohio Teacher Evaluation System) 2.0 State Trainer, also for the Ohio Department of Education, and was a team member of the OESCA (The Ohio Educational Service Center Association) Reframing Education Project. He has been a presenter at several educational conferences and leadership workshops, and has led multiple workgroups and leadership forums related to Ohio’s response to COVID-19. 

Young has a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Kent State University and a Master of Science in Education Administration degree from the University of Akron. He holds current Superintendent, Principal, and Teaching Licenses.
