Little Shop of Horrors Debuts on CHHS Stage

A struggling flower shop, an unusual plant, a meek flower shop assistant, and a beautiful co-worker. Together they set the stage for Cuyahoga Heights High School’s rendition of the horror-comedy-rock-musical “Little Shop of Horrors”. The performance debuts March 22-24 at 7 p.m. in the Paul L. Baumgardner Auditorium.

With music by Alan Menken and lyrics and a book by Howard Ashman, the setting is Mushnik’s Flower Shop, a failing store on Skid Row. The few plants on display, like their surroundings, are run down and fading. The owner, Mr. Mushnik, and his two employees, Audrey and Seymour, struggle to keep the shop afloat. Then, during a total eclipse, Seymour discovers an unusual plant which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. But then Seymour is faced with finding ways to satiate the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.

Throughout the performance, the audience will enjoy a litany of songs made famous in the production, including “Suddenly Seymour,”  “Skid Row,” and “Feed Me”.
