Board Recognizes February Students of the Month

The February 28 Board meeting provided the setting for the Cuyahoga Heights Board of Education to recognize February 2024 Students of the Month.  A certificate was presented to the following students.

From Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School:

Layla Prosser - Grade 1

Layla starts every day walking in with a huge, infectious smile.  She has a very kind heart and truly cares about every classmate.  She goes out of her way to help other students as well as her teachers. She is an excellent role model for both her peers and others she may encounter throughout the day. Her classmates enjoy interacting with her during recess or small group activities and we all enjoy her sense of humor. She works hard on her tasks and always adds insightful thoughts to our discussions. She never gives up when something is difficult, but instead works at it until she has figured it out.

Noah DeOliveira - Grade 1

Noah has a “ginormous” heart! His thoughtfulness and kindness towards others brings a smile to all those he encounters throughout the day. He is selfless and caring. He is funny and brings joy to others. He is a friend to all and is always willing to lend a helping hand to any student or teacher in need. He is polite and treats everyone with respect. Noah works hard on all tasks and recognizes the hard work he has done when he encounters success. The joy he feels from that success is contagious and he wants to share it with everyone.

From Cuyahoga Heights Middle School:

Cru Kovitch - Grade 6

Cru brings a smile and his enthusiasm to physical education class every day and uses these attributes to encourage his classmates. He can be seen giving a “high-five" or heard saying “good job!” to his teammates. He never judges his peers and is always friendly, helpful and a great leader. He strives to do his very best in all that he does.

Matthew Cowling - Grade 7

Matthew exemplifies outstanding citizenship with his consistently pleasant demeanor towards both staff and students. His positive attitude creates a welcoming environment that contributes to a sense of community within the school. Matthew is dedicated to his studies, consistently working hard to achieve excellence. His commitment to academic success reflects not only in his grades, but also in an eagerness to learn.

Sophia Jackson - Grade 8

Sophia has a good head on her shoulders. She has earned fantastic grades while participating in extracurricular sports, such as volleyball and track. She is kind to her peers and classmates and would unquestionably help a friend in need. A quiet leader, she is a role model for appropriate classroom behavior. She participates in class and adds to the discussion at hand.

From Cuyahoga Heights High School:

Zhou Wei Ni - Grade 9

While relatively quiet among his peers, Zhou Wei absolutely bristles with intelligence. He is often ready to answer any question that is posed to him or the class with depth and nuance. He is a new member to both Model United Nations and the Mock Trial teams. He is driven and diligent in his preparation for the Mock Trial competition and has already been given high praise from our cooperating attorney.

AJ Kurta - Grade 10

AJ is an all-around upstanding individual with many interests. It is quite apparent that he is an emerging leader. Hard-working and tenacious, he is always challenging himself to improve. He accepts additional responsibilities when he sees that someone needs assistance. In Model UN, he took it upon himself to help others in his group to prepare their musical entry into the talent competition, and in Mock Trial, he has taken on two witness roles. He was also selected for the Cuyahoga Heights First Ring Leadership Academy and is assisting his group in their project to research grading scales among schools in Northeast Ohio.

Tyler Herman - Grade 11

Tyler has been keeping up with school work here at Cuyahoga Heights and also his work at CVCC. He is always prepared for class and prioritizes his assignments and classwork to make sure he is on top of everything. He is polite and always asks for clarification or extra help with something in class. Going from tenth to eleventh grade and taking on classes at CVCC is a challenge, and he is doing exceptionally well!

Georgia Kattler - Grade 12

Georgia is currently taking four Advanced Placement (AP) classes, including, AP Government, Psychology, English Literature, and Statistics. The amount of time it takes to excel in one AP class is considerable, but to do it in four is pretty amazing. What is even more impressive is that at the same time she competes on the high school’s swim team, which is one of the most exhausting and time-consuming sports in which a student can engage. She recently won the CVC Conference Championship in the 200-meter Freestyle, took second place in the 500-meter Freestyle, and led two more relays to top-four finishes. Her work ethic and commitment to the sport makes her a tremendous leader and an inspiration to her teammates. She recently committed to swim in college where she will do very well because she is not afraid of challenges or hard work. Georgia is a previous multi time conference champion and district qualifier and we expect her to reach that same level of success again this season as she helps lead our team toward the championship meets.
