Students Practice Safety Measures

Bus evacuation drills, tornado drills, shelter-in-place drills – there were some of the procedures students practiced during Safety Week in the Cuyahoga Heights Schools (CHS) October 9-12.

In addition to the drills, seventh grade students met with members of the Cuyahoga Heights police and fire departments to learn how to respond to an intruder or threat from inside the building using the “run-hide-fight” protocol. They also learned how to respond to a person experiencing a stroke, how to use a fire extinguisher, and how to “Stop the Bleed” on a person who has been injured and losing blood. In the event of an emergency, CHS seventh graders have the skills to take control of the situation.
