Both performers and guests “swamped” the Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School gymnasium March 21 when the Wolf Pup Drama Club presented two performances of “Shrek the Musical - Kids” before packed crowds of family members and friends.
The club was established four years ago to cultivate interest in the performing arts and encourage students’ desire to perform musical productions later in high school. This year, 30 fourth graders and 26 fifth graders rehearsed twice weekly after school starting in early January. Students learned about blocking (where and how to move on stage), rehearsed lines, and perfected songs.
“Our students did an incredible job, showing teamwork, dedication, and lots of heart,” said school counselor and director Jessica Satterlee. Angelo Bertolone was musical director; Sean Garrow and Logan Zastawny, assistant directors; and Kelly Cummins, stage director.
