Superintendent Highlights Academic Excellence, Partnerships and Future Planning at State of the Schools Event

Cuyahoga Heights Superintendent Matt Young joined educational leaders from across the region as a panelist during the Cuyahoga Valley Chamber of Commerce State of the Schools presentation held on May 13 at the Holiday Inn on Rockside Road.

The event brought together school leaders to discuss student achievement, workforce readiness, community partnerships and the future of public education throughout Northeast Ohio.

During the panel discussion, Young highlighted the factors that have contributed to Cuyahoga Heights Schools’ continued academic success. He shared that the district has built a dynamic educational program over many years through a collaborative, data-driven approach that continues to evolve to meet the needs of students.

Young noted that Cuyahoga Heights Schools has consistently ranked among the top-performing districts in Ohio on state assessments while also earning recognition for literacy growth and closing achievement gaps.

The discussion also focused on the work of the district’s BEST Committee and how it is helping shape future planning related to facilities and school safety. Young shared updates on ongoing and upcoming capital improvement projects across the district, including roof replacements, fire alarm upgrades and improvements to the Hillside campus area.

Preparing students for success after graduation was another major topic of conversation. Young discussed the district’s commitment to providing students with a wide range of pathways and opportunities, including college preparation, career technical education, apprenticeships and workforce experiences designed to help students prepare for future success.

The panel also highlighted the importance of community partnerships in enhancing the educational experience for students. Young pointed to the district’s collaborations with organizations including Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, Baldwin Wallace University, PTO organizations, local businesses and community partners that provide students with additional academic, career and service-learning opportunities.

As the school year comes to a close, Young reflected on several accomplishments across the district, including all three school buildings earning 5-Star Ratings on the Ohio School Report Card, the elementary school being named a National ESEA Distinguished School, PBIS Bronze Awards at all three buildings, a Gold Rating for the preschool program and the high school earning AP School Honor Roll Silver recognition.

Looking ahead, Young discussed the importance of continued advocacy for public education, making strategic decisions for the district’s future and continuing to position Cuyahoga Heights Schools for long-term success.
