Amanda Apathy

Amanda (Mandi) Apathy was sworn in as the newest member of the Cuyahoga Heights Board of Education at the February 17 meeting. Apathy was appointed to fill a vacancy after member Matt Rusch resigned to accept a new professional role that required weekly travel out of state. She joins members Gary Suchocki, President; Jennifer Deka, Vice President; Carolyn Pajestka, and Peter Rossi. Her term expires December 31, 2027.

Apathy currently serves as senior executive assistant to the president at Cleveland State University, a position she has held since 2022. Prior to that, she worked in various capacities at the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and at the Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services.

Apathy has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Baldwin Wallace University with a major in broadcasting communications and minors in theater and criminal justice. Her community experience includes coaching youth soccer for Brooklyn Heights Recreation for 12 years, previously serving as the recording secretary for the Brooklyn Heights Women’s Service Club and she has participated in the Cuyahoga Heights School’s BEST (Building on Excellence and Success Together) strategic planning committee. From serving as a classroom volunteer, mystery reader, and volunteering for holiday/AMP’d parties, to chaperoning in D.C. and for after-prom; she has volunteered at many CHS events over the past 14 years. She is also a planning council member and communications co-board director for her church; volunteering in various capacities supporting the food pantry, local crisis center, and assisting with coordinating various youth and intergenerational projects/events there.

Born and raised in the Village of Brooklyn Heights, her family has been active in Brooklyn Heights and CHS schools for many years.  Apathy is a CHS Class of 1999 graduate and her brother Mike graduated from CHS in 1994. She and her husband, Blaine, have 5 children; Logan (CHS Class of 2025), Chance (Class of 2027 at Holy Name), and three children currently attending the Cuyahoga Heights Schools: Gianna (Grade 9), Skylar (Grade 6), and River (Grade 4).

In her spare time, Apathy loves attending her children’s various athletic events, school plays, and orchestra and choir concerts. She enjoys seeing musicals and concerts in downtown Cleveland, volunteering at events in the community and at church, reading, playing golf, and spending as much time as possible during the summer at Cuyahoga Heights pool with her kids and their friends from the district.
