Cuyahoga Heights students demonstrated exceptional civic knowledge on December's American Government State Test that students take to demonstrate readiness for graduation. Among the 56 test takers, 95% earned a score of proficient or higher, significantly outpacing the statewide average of 65%. “This achievement puts our students in a strong position to earn Ohio's Citizenship Seal,” said American Government teacher Dr. Johnny Roy.

The Citizenship Seal is one of 12 diploma seals created for students to demonstrate academic, technical, and professional readiness, signifying the knowledge and skills essential for future success in their chosen post-high school paths. Students who earn proficient or higher on both the American History and American Government state tests automatically earn the Citizenship Seal. Under Ohio's graduation requirements, students must earn at least two seals to graduate. One of these seals, such as the Citizenship Seal, must be state-defined.

“The results reflect outstanding preparation by our students and effective instruction,” said teacher Dr. Johnny Roy. “These scores demonstrate not only mastery of American government and civics, but also the critical thinking skills students will need as engaged citizens and informed participants in our democracy,” Roy concluded.
