Cuyahoga Heights High School (CHHS) is among the top 10 public high schools in Greater Cleveland in the U.S. News and World Report’s Best High Schools ranking released on August 18, 2025.

CHHS ranked No. 9 among 133 high schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan area. Moreover, CHHS ranked No. 29 among 903 public high schools in the State of Ohio, placing it in the top 5 percent of public high schools statewide. Nationally, CHHS ranked No. 773 among the nearly 17,901 public high schools across the nation that were ranked on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

The ranking, which was determined from assessments taken during the 2022-2023 academic school year, (the most recent data available), focused on six factors, with each given a certain percentage and together totaling 100 percent. These factors included:

  • College Readiness (30 percent). This factor is based on the proportion of 12th graders who took and earned a qualifying score on at least one Advanced Placement (AP) exam.

  • State assessment proficiency (20 percent). This factor looked at aggregated scores on state assessments that students are required to pass for graduation.

  • State assessment performance (20 percent). This factor looks at aggregated scores on state assessments compared to expectations given the proportions of students who are Black, Hispanic, and from low-income households.

  • Underserved student performance (10 percent). These scores are compared with what is typical in the state for non-underserved students.

  • College Curriculum Breadth (10 percent). This factor measured student performance on AP exam content areas: English; math and computer science; sciences; world languages and cultures; history and social science; arts; and AP capstone.

  • Graduation Rate (10 percent).  This factor is based on the proportion of ninth graders entering high school who graduated four academic years later.

According to the U.S News Rankings, about 48 percent of CHHS students took at least one AP exam and at least 40 percent passed at least one exam. A total of 85 percent of students were math proficient. The graduation rate is greater than 95 percent.

“This recognition as a top-tier high school -- ranking 9th regionally and in the top 5 percent statewide – is a testament to our outstanding staff, students, and community. I could not be more proud,” said Cuyahoga Heights Local School District’s Superintendent Matt Young. “These are among our highest rankings in the past decade, proving that Cuyahoga Heights continues to set new standards of excellence. We have something exceptional here, and this validation of our achievements inspires us as we continue to evolve and meet the changing needs of our students.”
