A recent visit by book author Rebecca Barone had a monumental impact on Cuyahoga Heights Middle School students. In her presentation, Barone, a lifelong reader, shared her latest non-fiction book, “Mountain of Fire”, which details the eruption and survivors of the Mount St. Helens volcano which erupted in the state of Washington in 1980.
In addition to discussing her book and her other non-fiction works with the students, Barone talked about her educational background as an engineer and the interesting experiences that resulted, including doing injury analysis for the National Football League. She also shared how and why she began her career as a writer and what the writing process means for her.
The students were able to ask questions following Ms. Barone's presentation.
"I think that the way she presented information was very informative and the way she presented her story was good as well." said eighth grader Alijah Cruz.
"The speaker was very good at keeping me engaged and her books look good,” added a classmate.
Overall, “It was a terrific experience for our kids!” said Molly Clay, Middle School/High School Teacher Assistant, who helped coordinate the book talk.
