Students may be on summer break, but Cuyahoga Heights Schools is busy preparing its buildings and grounds for the new school year.

Crews are completing a wide range of improvement projects across the district, including new stadium lighting and scoreboards, as well as roofing, bleachers, and parking lot maintenance. No general fund dollars were used to pay for these improvements. A combination of permanent improvements funding, digital billboard revenue, athletic rental fees, and donations covered the cost of these projects.

Auditorium Receives Technology Upgrade

One of the first projects completed this spring was an upgrade to the high school auditorium's stage lighting and sound system. The previous incandescent lighting was replaced with energy-efficient LED fixtures that provide a wide range of color options for performances. A new digital lighting control board allows students to operate the system during productions, while an upgraded digital audio mixer gives students and staff greater flexibility and control over sound. The improvements also provide students with additional opportunities to develop technical skills through hands-on experience in theater productions.

Ralph P. Adams Stadium Improvements

Visitors to Ralph P. Adams Stadium will notice several major improvements this fall. The stadium's nearly 30-year-old lighting system has been replaced after aging wiring made the existing fixtures increasingly unreliable. Engineers determined the existing poles remained structurally sound, allowing crews to install 52 new LED fixtures while using the current infrastructure.

A new LED scoreboard has been installed at Ralph P. Adams Stadium. The previous scoreboard had served the district for more than three decades and supported approximately 50 athletic events each year. As replacement parts became harder to find and the display became less reliable, district leaders determined it was time for an upgrade.

The new scoreboard will provide a more reliable experience for student-athletes, families, and community members attending athletic events.

A special thank you to the Athletic Boosters for their generous donation, which allowed us to add an arched truss at the top of the scoreboard that reads "CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS."

North and South Gym Improvements 

The Flip Saunders gymnasium is receiving improvements early this fall, including the installation of new bleachers. With the old seating reaching the end of its useful life, this update will allow the district to continue its commitment to safe, well-maintained spaces.

The North Gym floor is being refinished to help preserve the surface and prepare it for another school year of athletic competitions and student activities.

Roofing, Gutters, and Parking Lot Maintenance

Routine maintenance is also taking place throughout the district. New aluminum gutters have been installed at both the elementary school and the middle/high school to improve drainage and help protect the buildings from future water damage.

Roof replacement work began this summer at the middle/high school and will continue at the elementary school. The project replaces roofing sections that have reached the end of their service life and is part of the district's ongoing capital improvement plan.

District parking lots are also being seal-coated to protect the pavement, extend its lifespan, and provide safe access for students, families, staff, and visitors.

Archway Restoration

Repairs to the elementary school archway, damaged in an accident by a vendor this spring, are now complete. Engineers were involved throughout the planning process to make sure the archway is structurally sound and safe.

Planning for the Future

Together, these projects represent investments across nearly every part of the district, including the stadium, gymnasium, auditorium, school buildings, parking lots, and the archway that welcomes students each day. The district continues to support the goals of its BEST Strategic Plan, ensuring students, staff, and families have learning spaces that are safe, functional, and ready to serve the community for years to come.
