Bart Hahn

Cuyahoga Heights School’s (CHS) buses roll out every day thanks, in great part, to the efforts of Bartholomew (Bart) Hahn. As Bus Mechanic and member of the Transportation Department, Hahn ensures the safety and reliability of student transportation by performing inspections, diagnostic tests, and preventive maintenance on the district’s buses and other vehicles. He responds to road calls for breakdowns or disabled buses. He also drives bus routes and field trips when extra help is needed.

“Bart’s extensive knowledge, strong work ethic, and team-first attitude make him an invaluable member of the Cuyahoga Heights team,” said Paula Hupcey, AM transportation coordinator. His dedication, reliability, and willingness to help is what propelled him into the Cuyahoga Heights Schools’ Staff Spotlight for March. Hahn was recognized for commitment by the Cuyahoga Heights Board of Education at the March 16 meeting.

Hahn joined the district three years ago from Brecksville-Broadview Heights Schools where he worked from 2012-2023. According to his associates, he works tirelessly to ensure that the district’s fleet of buses remain safe, reliable, and road ready each and every day.  He consistently goes above and beyond his responsibilities, often coming in on weekends to make repairs, ensuring that transportation services continue to run smoothly for both students and staff. “He is always willing to step in and help when needed, even driving routes or drop-offs in a pinch, demonstrating his commitment to supporting his colleagues and the entire school community,” added Hupcay.

Hahn said problem-solving is what he likes most about his role. “I enjoy working with my co-workers and getting a fix on any of the questions and concerns they bring me,” he said. He enjoys helping others. “I believe even the smallest gesture of kindness can brighten the day for someone who may really need it.” Recalling  one of his favorite movies, the 1997 thriller, “The Edge,” Hahn says he is partial to the words spoken in a scene by Anthony Hopkins: ‘What one man can do, another can do’. “I do believe if one person can accomplish a difficult task, anyone can with sufficient determination,” Hahn noted.

The fourth of five children (four boys and a girl), Hahn grew up in Broadview Heights where he enjoyed sports – mostly soccer – and also spending time in the woods riding dirt bikes or exploring. “I have always been my parents favorite. But they told me not to say anything,” he jokingly remarked. ”I feel very lucky for the childhood my parents provided us, and am trying to provide the same great opportunities and memories for my girlfriend and her eight-year-old daughter.”

Hahn said he doesn’t care for rudeness.“I think everyone is in such a hurry anymore that they forget to treat others the way they would like to be treated.”  And speaking of how to be treated, Hahn said what he most likes about being a part of CHS is the respect he receives from students and athletes. “Our students here are very kind and courteous,” he noted.

It’s not unusual to find Hahn tapping into his creative side and leaving behind small drawings that bring a smile to others in the Transportation Department. “I enjoy creating new beautiful things to make others slow down and think about or enjoy,” commented Hahn. If he weren’t a bus mechanic he speculated that he might have been an artist. When not at the Bus Garage, he enjoys traveling and attending fairs and sporting events. He also enjoys many forms of art, especially creating new things or helping family members with their projects.
