Students of the Month Recognized for December/January

The Cuyahoga Heights Board of Education took time during the January 25th meeting to recognize Students of the Month for both December 2022 and January 2023. 

Recognized for December from Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School are:

  • Lyla Kirchner (Grade 3) -- Lyla was selected for exemplifying positivity, grit, and a determination to succeed. She consistently puts forth her best effort daily. She diligently listens in class, absorbs new information, and applies strategies that best fit her learning styles. She utilizes class resources, time with teachers, and time at home to improve and strengthen her academic skills. She demonstrates perseverance when faced with new challenges.She is always willing to help a friend or teacher in need. She is a wonderful person, inside and out! 
  • Edward "EJ" Kolarz (Grade 3) -- EJ was selected for being caring, honest, engaged and safe. He has a strong work ethic and demonstrates perseverance on a daily basis. He is always respectful to his peers and teachers which is admirable. His imagination and creativity are unique!  With his kind heart, sense of humor, and helpful demeanor, EJ truly demonstrates the qualities of a great friend. 

Recognized for December from Cuyahoga Heights Middle School are:

  • Dominic Sciano (Grade 6) -- Dominic’s favorite subject is math and he also plays basketball and golf. He notes that his father and all of his father’s family are district alumni. He is an excellent student who cares greatly about reaching his full potential. He demonstrates respect and kindness to his peers and teachers on a daily basis. He envisions going above and beyond as demonstrated on a recent project. With the help of his father and his group, he created a model representing Mesopotamian irrigation systems that the entire class was able to learn from
  • Sophia Birth (Grade 7) -- Sophia’s favorite subject is history and she is a member of the swimming and basketball teams. She strives to become an interior designer. Sophia practices kindness and respect toward her peers and the staff. She is caring and empathetic to everyone she meets. She participates in class and strives to do her best on a daily basis. Her positive attitude is consistently shown inside and outside the classroom. 
  • Gianna Falkner (Grade 8) -- Gianna enjoys writing and her favorite subject is English. Outside of school she enjoys helping her mother and grandmother with catering jobs. She aspires to become an architect. Gianna is a caring student towards both her peers and teachers. She is responsible and thoughtful. She comes to school daily ready to learn and is always looking to assist others when help is needed.
December Students of the Month from Cuyahoga Heights High School:
  • Savannah Peck (Grade 9) -- Savannah’s favorite subjects are history and science. She is a member of the Art Club and Bowling Team and she strives to open her own bakery someday. She is an “under-the-radar” student, but if you just have a short conversation with her, you realize she is smart, funny, and, without exaggeration, the nicest student in her class. She is a very hard worker who is able to take responsibility for herself. She wants to do well, so she is not afraid to ask for help. If she makes a mistake, she asks what she did wrong. If she is absent, she asks her teachers for missing materials. She is a wonderful student to have in class.
  • Miguel Dehn (Grade 10) -- Miguel’s favorite class is English. He is a member of the track team and participates in the afterschool lifting group. He envisions a career in music or, if that does not materialize, in real estate, flipping houses. One of his teachers says that Miguel is an integral member of his class and is highly-respected by his peers. He is a humble, quiet, yet assertive young man who displays a wonderful sense of drive each and every day. He is always willing to participate, work in a small group, and/or work independently.  Whenever a class discussion becomes difficult, he can be called upon to provide good information, which helps gain the attention of his classmates. He also shows a ton of drive after school in the weight room. This demonstrates that he is a well-rounded individual who is never satisfied and is constantly looking to better himself however possible. He makes being a teacher very rewarding and fun at the same time!!
  • Talia Providenti (Grade 11) -- Talia’s favorite subject is English and outside of school, she loves to bake. She has made a great deal of improvement throughout this semester. She makes excellent choices and stepped up her work ethic and grades, especially in math. She is friendly, polite, and appreciative of the assistance given to her by her teachers. She is a delight to have in class and the staff is very proud of her accomplishments this year.
  • Maecy Voytek (Grade 12) -- Maecy’s favorite subject is biology and she is highly involved in school activities.  She is a member of the Marching Band, Jazz Band, Honors Band, Stage Crew, National Honor Society, Recycling Club, Science Club, Spanish Club, Art Club, and Yearbook. She envisions a career as a speech pathologist. She respects everyone and treats others with genuine kindness. She loves to laugh and often laughs at herself. Her joy is infectious. 

Recognized for January 2023 from Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School are: 

  • Sophia Gindlesperger (Grade 2) -- Sophia exemplifies many positive character traits.  She works incredibly hard and always goes above and beyond with her desire to challenge herself. She is eager to try new things and passionate about succeeding. Sophia also consistently shows empathy for others and is kind to everyone around her. She is a positive role model for her peers and ensures everyone in our class is included. 
  • Joseph Simerale (Grade 2) -- Joseph is caring, honest, engaged, and safe every single day. Though a new student this year, he immediately fit in with his second grade classroom family. He strives to show kindness and include others in and out of the classroom. In the classroom, he is a hard worker and a valued participant and remains engaged in all parts of his day. He takes initiative when completing school work and always strives to do his best. 

January Students of the Month from Cuyahoga Heights Middle School are:

  • Liam Kmetz (Grade 6) -- Liam’s favorite subject in school is band where he plays the drums, He even played with the high school Jazz Band during December’s winter concert. He also plays baseball and soccer for the recreation league. He strives to become a Formula 1 Driver. According to one of his teachers, Liam has been attentive, participative, and most importantly, excited to learn from Day One. He comes to class prepared everyday and sets an example for his peers as to how to behave in a class. He can be counted on to raise his hand to participate, to work well with his peers in partner work, and to be a good friend to those around him. He is truly a leader of his sixth grade class.  
  • Lorielle Hodges (Grade 7) -- Lorielle is a member of the Red Wolves swimming and basketball teams.  Her career goal is to become a trauma surgeon. According to one of her teachers, Lorielle is a stellar student who exemplifies the word DETERMINATION. She consistently turns in quality work on time and although quiet in class, when called upon, she gives thoughtful responses.
  • Madden Patel (Grade 8) -- Madden’s favorite subject in school is math. He is a member of Student Council and is on the football and wrestling teams. Outside of school, he plays baseball for the recreation center.  An interesting fact about Madden is that he taught himself to play the piano. After he finishes college he would like to become a hedge fund manager. One of his teachers stated that Madden is determined to put his best effort into everything he does. He is a kind, thoughtful young man who is a leader both in and out of the classroom. 

Representing Cuyahoga High School’s Students of the Month for January are:

  • Antonio McCladdie (Grade 9) -- Antonio was nominated by his Spanish teacher who wrote that he is excited about Spanish and his enthusiasm is contagious. He consistently outperforms his classmates with grace. He volunteers to give extra help to others.  His smile and positive attitude are always appreciated in the classroom. 
  • Ava Kmetz (Grade 10) -- Ava’s favorite subject is science and her aspiration is to become a forensic pathologist. She is a member of the  Marching Band, Jazz Band, Honors Band, Art Club, Model UN, and the musical. She also plays volleyball for the Red Wolves. Outside of school, she enjoys drawing, painting and snow skiing.  She has volunteered three times as a Playhouse Square “Red Coat” during the performance of Hamilton. According to her French teacher, "Margot" (as she is known in French class) has expressed a fiery enthusiasm about there being another language in school since the first day of class. She comes in almost every day excited to learn and is a leader in class, sparking more participation and excitement. Ava's eagerness and willingness to learn has enabled her to progress quickly in her language acquisition. 
  • Reece Frank (Grade 11) -- Reese’s  favorite subject is math. She is also on the soccer and basketball teams, a member of Student Council, and Treasurer of the Junior Class. Outside of school, she plays club soccer and the piano. Her goal is to become a kindergarten teacher and coach. One of her teachers indicates that she comes to school everyday with a positive attitude and works hard to make the most of her opportunities while also being a positive role model for her peers. She has a very challenging academic schedule taking five Advanced Placement classes and honors Spanish.  Finding that balance between the academic and extra-curricular requirements while keeping a positive attitude is really tough to do, but Reece does it on a daily basis.  
  • Becca Schuster (Grade 12) -- Her favorite subject is English because she likes to write. She is a member of the Marching Band, Jazz Band, Electric Orchestra, stage crew, Yearbook staff and Spanish Clubs as well as on the golf and track teams. After graduation, she intends to pursue a career in psychology. One of her teachers wrote that she is quiet but deliberate. Her critical thinking skills and amazing writing ability make her one of the top communicators this teacher has ever had in class.She contributes to small-group discussions and makes profoundly insightful topic choices for essays because of her strong ability to balance reason and feeling.
