High Schoolers Explore Their Futures

Cuyahoga Heights High School juniors and seniors connected with several colleges and some branches of the military at College/Armed Forces Day held on September 6 in the media center. Students enjoyed meeting with college representatives and learning about majors, programs, and other exciting opportunities at the various institutions.

Those participating included the University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, Cuyahoga Community College, John Carroll University, Ohio University, Baldwin Wallace University, The Ohio State University, Cleveland State University, The University of Akron, Kent State University, Hiram College, Cuyahoga Community College, Lorain County Community College, and Notre Dame College. Also participating were the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.

“Things went well,” said Guidance Counselor Holly Thrasher, who organized the event. “The students received information about colleges and majors that they were not even thinking about (prior to attending the event).”

“At one point, the room was packed with students asking questions and collecting informational brochures to read later,” said CHHS Principal Scott DeTray.  “Students were genuinely excited about beginning their next phase of life.”

“This is important”, added the principal, “because students today must begin making post-graduation plans at the beginning of their senior year and the college application process takes time.”
