Prizes Awarded in Book BINGO Reading Challenge

It can certainly be said that students at Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School are up for a challenge. Just ask Principal Joy Houchen. This past summer she challenged her students to read as many books as possible on a variety of topics and in a variety of ways. The final tally?  537 books!

To encourage their progress, each student received a BINGO board and tried to make as many BINGOs as possible based on what, where, and how they read. The participants turned in their BINGO boards, as well as pictures and videos to earn tickets for a grand prize. The participant prizes finally arrived in mid October and Mrs. Houchen distributed them in the cafeteria. Every participant received a new book to take home.

Participants then got to enter tickets into the drawing for a grand prize and one ticket was chosen. The winner was third grader, Jimmy Cichocki. Jimmy was given a variety of choices for the grand prize and he selected an e-reader. An e-reader is a handheld device on which electronic versions of books, newspapers, magazines, and other reading materials can be read.

“We are so excited to see Jimmy with his new e-reader!” exclaimed Mrs.Houchen. “Congratulations to all of our participants. They not only read over the summer, but they had some fun along the way!”
