Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School (CHES) Principal Joy Houchen is pleased to recognize Lily Mauk (Grade 3) and Dexter Shop (Grade 5) as Students of the Month for September.
“Positive, hardworking, and creative, Lily exemplifies what it means to be a stellar student,” said Mrs. Houchen. She said that in the several years of having Lily in class, teachers have taken notice of the kind and gentle way Lily treats classmates, teachers, and anyone else she meets along the way. Lily approaches all things school related with a glimmer of excitement in her eyes. “You can almost see the creative wheels turning as Lily figures out just how she can make the most of her next learning experience. She doesn’t follow the crowd, but instead, her own inner voice. This attribute makes her a lot of fun to teach. We are so proud of the student Lily is and the person she’s becoming,” she noted. Lily is the daughter of Sara and Mike Mauk of Valley View.
According to Mrs. Houchen, Dexter started fifth grade off on an awesome foot! “He is a student who loves to learn, and is often asking insightful questions about what we are learning in an attempt to discover as much as he possibly can.” Dexter is reputed to be engaged in his work, always willing to help classmates and teachers (which his teachers very much appreciate!), and is seen as a positive role model for all those around him. “He is a wonderful addition to our CHES family. His teachers are excited to witness all of the amazing things Dexter will accomplish this school year.” Dexter is the son of Hillary and Neil Shop of Valley View.

Sophia Harter (Grade 6) - She is the daughter of Chris and Tiffany Harter of Valley View.
Olivia Kucia (Grade 7) - Olivia is the daughter of Markie and Tony Kucia of Valley View.
Noah Tokar (Grade 8) - He is the son of Megan and John Tokar of Brooklyn Heights.
Lorenzo Amato (Grade 9) - Lorenzo is the son of Danae and August Amato of Garfield Heights.
Hannah Flynn (Grade 10) - She is the daughter of Karen and Joseph Flynn of Brooklyn Heights.
Elise Biggers (Grade 11) - Elise is the daughter of Kristine Biggers of Brooklyn Heights.
Colin Deka (Grade 12) - He is the son of Jennifer and Shawn Deka of Valley View.
All of the Students of the Month were recognized at the September 22 Board of Education meeting and those present were presented with a certificate.
