In the (Staff) Spotlight: Angelo Bertolone

Angelo BertoloneMr. Angelo Bertolone, CHES Music Teacher, is the Staff Member of the Month

To characterize Angelo Bertolone, music teacher at Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School (CHES), one might use the words enthusiastic, engaging, and fun.  “Mr. Bertolone’s love of music is regularly evident by his playing instruments and creating fun activities and games for his students,” said Cathy Ditzel, elementary school secretary who nominated Bertolone for the award.  “You can always feel and hear the excitement from the students when passing by Mr. Bertolone’s music room.

His passion, positivity and ability to make music one of his students’ favorite subjects is why he was selected the September 2021 Staff Spotlight recipient.  Mr. Bertolone was honored at the September 22 Board of Education meeting with a resolution recognizing his commitment to the school’s students and staff.

“Angelo really deserves this award,” said CHES Principal Joy Houchen. “He’s always willing to jump in wherever he’s needed. He’s an amazing teacher who fosters a love of learning and a love of music.  He’s an extraordinary example for both students and staff.”

“I was shocked to find out I had been selected, but I am happy to be spotlighted by my peers,” said Bertolone.  “My first thought was that I’m happy because I work in a happy place surrounded by happy people.  I am truly a product of where I work.”

Bertolone has been with the Cuyahoga Heights Local Schools for 27 years. He was the high school band director for four years and has been teaching music at the elementary school for the past 23 years. All three of his daughters, Sara, Jessica, and Gina, are CHHS graduates and three of his six grandchildren currently attend the Cuyahoga Heights Schools.  He and his wife, Denise, reside in Sagamore Hills.
