The Cuyahoga Heights School District has enjoyed many years of excellence in academics, the arts, and athletics, with many wonderful traditions.  As the new superintendent, I am very excited about joining the school district and look forward to participating in the many traditions and events.   My role as superintendent will be to help maintain these traditions and to build upon the excellent academic programs and opportunities for students, but also to be a good steward of the district’s resources.

The Cuyahoga Heights School District is at a crossroads that will have a major impact on the school district’s future and our programming.   We are experiencing a major shift in public education funding with a reduction in state and local funding from various sources such as the Tangible Personal Property Tax phase-out (which taxes business inventory and equipment), Ohio’s new biennial budget, and the compounding impact of the weakened economy. 

How we handle the crossroads is critical to the school district’s future.  As the new superintendent, I will work to ensure that we operate within our financial means and are good stewards of the public tax dollars.  We recognize that there are greater demands on public schools for increased accountability for academic performance and fiscal stability and we will be accountable. 

Now that we have discovered and addressed what has happened in the past, we pledge to make changes to be prudent with local revenues and operate the school district efficiently and effectively.  We will raise academic achievement, increase opportunities for students, and be accountable to the three communities of Brooklyn Heights, Cuyahoga Heights, and Valley View. 

However, in order to move beyond this crossroads we will need the support of the three communities and parents to ensure the school district will be able to maintain our current level of programming.  Please consider supporting the school district to continue providing an excellent education for our children.

I look forward to working with the school district and communities to ensure we continue the excellence in education and traditions.
