Curriculum
Essential to the district’s mission to provide a solid curriculum is the examination of existing educational programs, the review of courses of study and the purchases of textbooks and supplementary materials. The district has established a continuous process to do just that. Beginning with the 2010-11 school year the state of Ohio along with 30 other states introduced the Common Core in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. In addition, the Ohio Core Curriculum in Social Studies and Science was also approved for the 2010-11 school year. School districts have been given 3-4 years to transition from the former standards to those newly adopted in June 2010.
Modifications to our former Curriculum and Textbook Review Timeline take into consideration the newly adopted standards as well as awaiting the introduction of revised state-mandated testing from grades 3-12. At this time, the state is targeting Spring 2014 for the introduction of the new assessments.

Instructional Redesign
- Middle school teachers
have completed an Instructional Redesign project. This three-step
process includes:
- Performance
Indicators (PIs) are holistic, stand-alone learning outcomes that
wrap several skills, concepts or principles into a complete and total demonstration
of student learning. Using Bloom's Taxonomy, these skills and
Performance Indicators are leveled at I, II, or III.
- Curriculum Maps are like road maps for the school year. They are developed using
Performance Indicators and identify specific skills and learning
activities.
- Unit Plans are developed around specific skills and Performance Indicators. There
are four parts to a unit plan: Motivation, Instruction, Assessment, and
Culmination.
- Middle school teachers
have also worked with representative elementary and high school teachers
to establish Performance Indicators in Mathematics, Science, Social
Studies, and Language Arts.
- Using the Performance
Indicators, teachers developed Curriculum Maps which included specific
activities, necessary resource, infusion of technology, and assessments.
- Middle school teachers
are using the Curriculum Maps, making additions, revisions, and/or
deletions each year.
- Middle school teachers
have developed Unit Plans based on their Curriculum Maps.
