Safe School Environment

Our district makes every attempt to provide a safe environment for students during the school day as well as at any event held in one of the school facilities.  In accordance with this procedure, the school district may elect to use a breathalyzer, metal detector or similar device at any or all campus events when the occasion of “probable cause” is evidenced.

Foreign Languages

Spanish I

(Year courses--5 periods per week--1 credit)
Grades 9, 10, 11,12

Prerequisite: Recommendation of the instructor.

AIMS: To develop the four basic skills of the target language--understanding, speaking, reading, and writing; to introduce some Spanish culture, history, and geography; to present grammatical structure emphasizing the students use of the language through conversation and written exercises.
CONTENT: Drills in basic grammar and vocabulary; oral and written practice.


Spanish II

(Year courses--5 periods per week--1 credit)
Grades 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" and recommendation of the instructor.

AIMS: To continue the development of the four basic skills; to strengthen the use of idiomatic language; to further enrich the understanding of the role of Spanish speaking countries in the world.
CONTENT: Continuation of drills in basic grammar and vocabulary. Oral and written practice in the language with emphasis on pupil participation.


Spanish III

(Year courses--5 periods per week--1 credit)
Grades 11, 12

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" and recommendation of the instructor.

AIMS: To continue practice in oral and written expression with greater concentration on finer grammatical concepts; to study the geography, economy, culture, political aspects, and everyday life of countries where the language is spoken so students can develop a better understanding and appreciation for the psychology and philosophy of Spanish speaking peoples.
CONTENT: Discussion of, and written exercises on, articles and narratives in the text; drills to reinforce knowledge of verb forms and tense relationship; informal discussions of daily experiences to promote conversational fluency.


Honors Spanish IV

(Year courses--5 periods per week--1 credit)
Grade 12

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "B" or recommendation of the instructor.

AIMS: To study samples of Spanish literary, artistic, musical, and other cultural contributions; to develop fluency in spoken and written language; to review the mechanics of the language; to enhance appreciation of the role of Spanish speaking countries in the contemporary world.
CONTENT: Reading and discussion of Spanish literature and current periodicals with emphasis on thinking in the target language and fluency of expression.
