Health and Physical Education
In compliance with Title IX Federal Law, Physical Education and Health classes are coeducational.
AIMS: To fulfill the physical, mental, social, health, and emotional needs of students; to help students develop a total body fitness.
CONTENT: Program of activities in the gymnasium, swimming pool, classroom, and on the athletic fields.
Physical Education
Grade 9
(Required year course--5 periods per week--1/2 credit)
AIMS: Core program in which entire class participates in one activity at his or her skill level. Basic skills in all activities are taught at this time with increased emphasis on team play.
Health
Grade 10
(Required one semester course--5 periods per week--1/2 credit)
HEALTH AIMS: Emergency first aid, shock, burns, fractures, poisons, sudden illness, methods of transportation, drugs and recognition, mouth to mouth resuscitation, choking, one and two man C.P.R, infant CPR
* All students are required to take an additional 18 weeks (one additional semester) of physical education, of their choice (Basic Skills, Sports & Conditioning, Personal Fitness), in grade 10, 11, or 12.
Physical Education--Sports & Conditioning
Grade 10, 11, 12
(One Semester course --5 periods per week--1/4 credit)
AIMS: This course is designed to use the major seasonal sports as its core focus. The major sports will be supplemented with conditioning and weight training.
Physical Education--Personal Fitness
Grades 10, 11, 12
(One Semester course--5 periods per week--1/4 credit)
AIM: This course will concentrate on a personal fitness program.
NOTE: Students may repeat any of the physical education courses (Basic Skills, Sports & Conditioning, Personal Fitness).
Physical Education--Dance Movement
Grades 10, 11, 12
(One Semester course--5 periods per week--1/4 credit)
AIM: To develop an appreciation of the various aspects of movement through the study of dance.
CONTENT: This course will include various dance techniques ranging from aerobics, ballet, ballroom dancing, line dancing, square dancing, and pilates. Students will be instructed in these areas and will learn the basic movements of these dances.
NOTE: Students may repeat any of the physical education courses (Basic Skills, Sports & Conditioning, Personal Fitness, Dance Movement).
