Computer Applications
(One semester course, 5 periods per week, 1/2 credit)
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
NOTE: This course may be repeated to learn other applications or to learn an advanced level of the same application.
AIMS: To provide students with the opportunity to learn about and explore all facets of various types of computer applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and/or desktop publishing. To allow for the greatest flexibility, each student will select an application of his/her choice. The program will be guided with appropriate testing and individual conferences.
CONTENT: This course will introduce students to popular computer applications. Since this is a self-directed program, students will select one or more applications to be responsible for managing their time and completing a specified sequence of skills, exercises, and "real world" projects.
Digital Media Production
(One semester – 5 periods per week – ½ credit)
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
AIMS: To introduce students to the exciting world of video production. The Digital Media Production course will enable students to create compelling and accessible media content to be delivered on CD, DVD, videotape, broadband Internet, and other emerging distribution methods. After completing this course, the student will apply emerging digital production techniques to the changing world of high tech communication, while maintaining high standards of artistic expression.
CONTENT: The Adobe Digital Video Curriculum will be the main focus of this class. The curriculum includes the following: Digital Video Workflow, Project Planning and Writing Tips, Digital Still Photography, Digital Video, Premiere Pro’s Interface and Features, Scene Selection and Video Capture, Creating Cuts-only Videos, adding Transitions, Creating Text, Advanced Editing Techniques and Workspace Tools, Working with Video Effects, Putting Video and Still Clips in Motion, Acquiring Audio, Editing Audio, Editing Audio, and more.
Visual Basic Programming
(One semester course – 5 periods per week – ½ credit)
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
AIMS: Are you a creative person who thrives on the technical aspects and principles of computer programming? A class in Visual Programming can open doors to an emerging industry where technical artists are an integral part of the team that brings programming and interactive motion graphics to life. It is part art and part computer science, with plenty of room for creative types who want to delve deeper into technical principles of programming.
CONTENT: This course is to introduce students to the exciting world of programming and meet your programming needs. With hands-on, step-by-step activities, this course will guide you through the nuts and bolts of Visual Basic programming.
Web Page Design
(Year course, 5 periods per week, 1/2 credit)
Grades 10, 11,12
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.
AIMS: To provide the student maximum exposure to researching, designing, creating and updating web pages using web page design software. A real world experience in the web page design field.
CONTENT: The student will work on web page projects, including the school's web page. The focus will include research, design, implementation, and evaluation. Students will also be evaluating web sites on the Internet.
