Introduction to Art
(Year course--5 periods per week--1 credit)
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
AIMS: To expose students to various media and to further art appreciation.
CONTENT: This exposure will give each student a foundation in the elements of design and prepare them for studies in Advanced Art. Students work in various media including clay, watercolor, textiles, ink, and are exposed to other artists' work in the form of art appreciation. return to top
Advanced Art
(Year course --5 periods per week--1 credit)
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art or permission of instructor.
AIMS: To further develop skills previously attained and to better equip the art student for future experiences in art, be it recreational or college study.
CONTENT: Various media are explored such as painting, jewelry, printing, textiles, and ceramics. Discussion of other artists and periods in the form of art appreciation. return to top
Advanced Placement Art Studio
(Year course - 5 periods per week - 1 credit)
Grades 11, 12
Prerequisite: Art 1, concurrent Advanced Art, Portfolio submitted for acceptance by sophomore candidates.
AIMS: Advanced Placement Art Studio is a course intended for the college bound art student. Taken concurrently with Advanced Art, it focuses on building an extensive portfolio in either general media or drawing. Much work is done outside of school with research of pertinent artists and historic periods. return to top
Basic Drawing
(Semester course--5 periods per week--1/2 credit)
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art
Note: Student fee may vary.
AIMS: This unique course will accommodate the wide variety of student interests. These activities are designed with the "non-artist" in mind, so that everyone can enjoy the creative experience with a variety of materials.
CONTENT: So you can't draw? You can prove yourself wrong by breaking subjects down into basic forms and shapes. Students will explore various drawing techniques with pencil, charcoal, and inks along with still-life, figure, and landscapes.

Painting

CONTENT:
Students will learn basic color techniques and explore the use of watercolors in still-life and landscapes. The springtime will be ideal for outdoor painting experiences.

Ceramics

CONTENT:
For the student who enjoys working in clay potter and sculpture. Its focus is on projects for the casual art student. Includes hand-building and wheel-throwing along with creative glazing techniques. return to top
Enameling/Jewelry Making
(Semester course--5 periods per week--1/2 credit)
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art
Note: Student fee may vary.
CONTENT:
Enameling -- The art of adding color to metals in the form of opaque and transparent enamels will be explored by the student. In addition to enhancing jewelry pieces, this ancient art will be used to create individual finished designs.
Jewelry Making -- Using the student's original designs. He/she will fabricate various jewelry pieces out of a variety of materials including silver, brass, copper, and exotic woods.

Art Appreciation
(One Semester course--5 periods per week--1/2 credit
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art
Note: Student fee may vary.
AIMS: To give the student a background in appreciating art works of the past, present and insight into future trends.
CONTENT: Lecture and slide presentation of past art styles and trends along with class discussion is the main focus of the course. Becoming aware of elements of art and how to critique works of art will enable the student to appreciate other fine arts and encourage them to draw their own conclusions of what is "good" art.

Photography I
(One Semester course--5 periods per week--1/2 credit, also listed under Industrial Technology)
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art, 35mm adjustable camera required--student supplies film and papers--Student fee, $10.00
AIMS: This course is designed for the student with no formal photographic experience. The students will become aware of the camera as an art form and a means of expression.
CONTENT: Students will take their own pictures, develop film, and learn enlarging and dark room techniques. Photo areas include landscapes, portraits, action, still life, and architectural photographs. return to top
Photography II
(One Semester course--5 periods per week--1/2 credit, also listed under Industrial Technology)
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art, 35mm adjustable camera required--student supplies film and papers--Student fee, $10.00
NOTE: Additional opportunities are available through Independent Study after successful completion of Photography II.
AIMS: This course is designed as a continuation of Photography I. There will be added experiences in composition, manipulation of media, and exploration into careers.
CONTENT: Students will take their own pictures, develop film, and learn advanced enlarging and dark room and color techniques. Photo areas include landscapes, portraits, action, still life, and architectural photographs. return to top
