What is important to remember!

  • Emphasis on how parents are the most important people in their child's life.
  • Explanation of when and how the fifth grade teachers will communicate with parents.

  • Explanation of the Classroom Discipline Plan.
  • Explanation of the Homework Policy.
  • Explanation of exactly how parents need to support the academic, discipline, and homework efforts of the fifth grade teachers.
  • Suggestions of how parents can help at home.
  • Explanation of the importance of parents and teachers working together as a team.
Ideas to help your child become a better reader:
  • Model readingãbooks, magazines, newspapers. Discuss what you have read with your child.
  • Read to your child regularly.
  • Encourage your child to read. This is a time to be very patient and to positively encourage your child to read all types of materials.
  • Model how to take care of books.
  • Take your child to a wide variety of places in the Greater Cleveland area, including the park, the zoo, the lake, museums, and the library.
  • Maintain good communication with your child's teacher. Show an interest in everything that your child does. This is a time for him/her to be learning many different types of skills. Praise him/her for his/her efforts.
  • Set aside specific time for reading each day.
Additional ideas to help your child:
  • Schedule homework time at home.
  • Tell your child what you expect of him/her regarding homework. Don't allow sloppy work.
  • Praise your child when he/she does good work.
  • Provide incentives for homework, if necessary.
  • Contact the teacher if you notice that your child is still having difficulty. The teacher and the parent/guardian must work together to help improve the child's performance.
