Student Spotlight -- Gia Barnes
One of our incredible 8th grade students is a Cast Spotlight for Near West Theatre. See their write up below and see one of our own perform this weekend!
None of you who have seen Anyone Can Whistle will believe this, but it is only Gia’s SECOND MUSICAL EVER, which is mind-blowing considering she is playing Faye like a seasoned pro. Her introduction to Near West was only this past fall when she came to see Newsies with two of her friends and instantly fell in love. ACW is Gia’s first musical with NWT, and she is so grateful to all her family, friends, and to NWT for all the support she’s received throughout the experience. Right now, Gia’s favorite musical is Anastasia, and her dream role is Eliza in Hamilton, or Faye, if there is ever a revival of ACW on Broadway! FYI to everyone reading this—you are looking at not only a performer, but a writer. In her free time, Gia and her friends like to come up with ideas for songs and musicals and then act them out! Love it!!
. . .
See Gia and the rest of the cast this weekend! Box Office is open M-F from 11am—4pm: call (216.961.6391), come in, or purchase online (! @ Near West Theatre

On Tuesday, January 10th, the Cuyahoga Heights Schools held a special ceremony to introduce the Gateway to Technology Lab to the public. Featuring computers and a 3-dimensional printer, the Gateway to Technology lab promotes science and technology for middle and high school students, and was funded through grants received in the amount of $30,000 by Cuyahoga Valley Career Center and $20,000 by ArcelorMittal. Elected officials from all three villages were in attendance, as well as Summer Paris, Corporate Responsibility and Communications Manager for ArcelorMittal Cleveland. The presentation included opening remarks by Superintendent Tom Evans, followed by a summary of the grants obtained to fund the lab by Director of Administrative Services, Dr. Ted Caleris.
