Girls on the Run, a program for 5th grade girls at Cuyahoga Heights Elementary, held its first meeting of the 2017-18 school year after-school on Monday, September 11th in the school gym. The program seeks to encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development, and incorporates physical activity to promote an active lifestyle. Each meeting features a lesson that includes sharing and discussion, followed by an opportunity for participants to walk or run around the elementary building or on the high school track. Approximately sixteen students participated in the first session, which was led by Guidance Counselor Jessica Satterlee and Elementary School Library Assistant Melissa Meadwell. 1st Grade Teacher Kristin Gammell and Kindergarten Teacher Kelsey O'Callahan will also serve as program coaches. The students will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 – 5:00 PM for the next nine weeks, and conclude with a 5 K walk/run event at Mayfield High School.
